2026 Municipal Elections

Trustees still have real local power: they help set board priorities, approve budgets, shape policies and programs, and can work with educators and the community to push for change. We’ve seen that work when WRDSB trustees listened to educators about classroom evacuations, supported data collection, and used that information to push for action. But trustees can also make choices that affect what happens in our schools—from debates over books and flags to decisions about where board priorities and resources are focused. And these elections can be incredibly close: in 2018, just 35 votes separated the fourth- and fifth-place candidates in Kitchener. The people at that table matter, and so does who we choose to put there.

Not sure where or how to vote? Your municipality has all the details including voting locations, advance voting, online voting options, and how to check that you’re on the voters’ list.

Voting Day is Monday, October 26.

Together in Education (TIE) is a coalition of education worker affiliates from across Waterloo Region, representing more than 10,000 workers across French and English public and Catholic education systems in our region. We know that many of our members have children in another board, so we’re coming together in solidarity to make collective recommendations for both the WRDSB and WCDSB. The French boards have acclaimed their trustees.

We’re proud to have one of the strongest education coalitions in the province and we know that we are stronger when we work together. Our collective recommendations will be based on the priorities and values that matter to education workers, students, families, and our communities.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: OUR RECOMMENDATIONS DROP OCTOBER 8.
Check back here on October 8 to see who TIE is recommending for trustee.
