Waterloo Educators

Last spring, we asked local students (and former students) to share about their memorable elementary teacher. Who was it that inspired, motivated, and challenged them to succeed. Congratulations to those educators that were recognized!

Congratulations to:

"He always made us students feel good, and if there was an issue he handled it calmly and respectfully. He played fun games like the Dictionary Game to help us with our dictionary skills. His teaching was the best at my elementary school, he explained things very well. His sense of humour made him always fun to around. He always told corny jokes to the class. During wood working he would always be right in there, helping us make our projects the best we could."

"Miss Pinder was by far the best teacher I have ever come across in my years of schooling. She was always there for questions, to talk if you were having a bad day, and wanted to see her students succeed.

She not only is an amazing teacher, but she’s an amazing person. She made school fun, and made the transition easy for students.

And that is why she is the most memorable elementary teacher."

"Mrs.Bonis is one of the best science teachers. She caters her time to each student in an unforgettable manner. Mrs.Bonis understands what type of learner we have such as auditory and/or kinetic and makes assignments according to those needs. She even caters the questions towards our needs. As an unforgettable teacher, she teaches great life skills such as patience. Her quote that she reminds us of is: "The way you practice is the way you perform."

"She was my teacher in grade 6 at a time when kids are very impressionable. She taught me so much. She showed us all that you can learn so much but have fun at the same time. The lessons she taught us were not only educational but enjoyable. I have never enjoyed being in a classroom so much. To this day 6 years later I still go back and visit her and it brings me back to a time when i didnt know what I wanted to do or be. She influenced me and made me want to be a teacher so i could pass on the lessons she taught me. I hope someday i can live up to be anything like the teacher and incredible person she is.

"He was an absolutely amazing teacher! Mr.Edwards had made such a difference in my life, and others, I will never forget him. He did not only teach well, accommodating and understanding each and every of his students, he was always there to cheer any student up, support them, and bring the best out of the student. He was funny and very outgoing, while still being a well-thought teacher. While encouraging the students to do their best, he also did his best as well. I remember how he encouraged me during physical activities, even when everyone knew I wasn't the most capable, including myself. However, he knew I could do it (somehow). It made me very much happy knowing there was a teacher that was able to make me overcome some self-doubts, and brought me to be a better person. Mr.Edwards was my most memorable teacher I've ever had in my entire education, making me the smile the most in my years."

"Ms St. John is a teacher I will never forget because she always pushed me to be the greatest student I could be and helped me believe that I could be a successful leader in my future. She supported me throughout my fourth grade year and I couldn’t be more thankful for everything she had done for me that led me to the success I have reached today. She will always be remembered by me as an amazing teacher and she deserves every prize in the world for the amount of love and care she has given her school, as well as her students."

"He was extremely nice to every single one of us and would always make us feel happy about school. He would answer any questions we had about certain subjects and would make sure we understood the topic. He would always reward us with fun games that were educational like kahoot and other trivia games. He was by far my favourite teacher I’ve ever had and I’m so glad other people like him at his new school too!"

"If someone asked me what my most memorable teacher was it would be Mrs. Drumm. She was an amazing teacher. She was always fun. She had fun ways to teach everything. We might have been a split class, but we were all close. She would listen to our stories and always encourage us to keep trying when we failed. I wasn’t the most responsible student, but she never yelled at me for it. In fact she never yelled at all. She would just sternly explain to us what we needed to do.
I loved going to her class everyday. There was always something to look forward to. The learning was interactive and she took the time to help anyone who needed it, individually. I’ve had many teachers over the years, but 10 years later, she’s still one of my top 3."
